LykkeLiga (DK)
Celebrating extraordinary people through sport
LykkeLiga translates to “happiness league” and is more than just a handball league – it represents a joyful revolution of inclusivity and community. The organisation was founded on the mission to foster happiness and a sense of belonging among children and young people with developmental disabilities and their families. LykkeLiga takes a fundamentally positive view of individuals with special needs, whom they refer to as “extraordinary people”.
At LykkeLiga, victories are measured not only by goals but by the laughter, high-fives, and sense of community experienced by every player. Each child is valued as a star, with the league creating an environment where differences are embraced, and everyone can be their true selves. The organisation provides extraordinary experiences for these extraordinary individuals, allowing them to find friends, feel seen, and be part of something greater.
LykkeLiga strives to build confidence, break down barriers, and spread happiness through the power of sport. By uniting families, volunteers, and local communities, the organisation aims to create a supportive network that extends beyond the game. LykkeLiga seeks to enhance the positive visibility of extraordinary individuals across all societal layers, focusing on their strengths rather than their challenges. LykkeLiga’s mission is to transform the perception of children with developmental disabilities from “those with a condition” to being recognised as “stars of an exceptional handball team”.
