Jorge Camors (UY)

Educator, Adjunct Professor and UNESCO Chair Coordinator for Youth and Adult Education, University of the Republic, Uruguay

Jorge Camors is an educator who began his career in 1965, working with children, young people, and adults in sociocultural activities at the YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association). He later expanded his work into various fields, including social work in protection programmes at the National Institute of Childhood and Adolescence, non-formal education with young people and adults, and as a professor at the Education Institute at the University of the Republic, Uruguay.

Jorge Camors graduated in 1982 with a degree in Pedagogy, specialising in Educational Administration. Since 1986, he has held various academic and administrative roles, including professor for both undergraduate and graduate courses, Director of the Career Commission, and a member of the Academic Committee Board for the Master’s degree in Education.

From 1989 to 2004, he served as the Director of the Training and Studies Centre, where he established the definition of a social educator and initiated training for social educators in Uruguay, which is still the only programme of its kind in Latin America.

In addition, Camors served as the Director of Non-Formal Education at the Ministry of Education from 2005–2025 and as a board member of the National Council of Non-Formal Education and the National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training from 2009–2015. He was a member of the Board of Directors of AIEJI from 2001 to 2005 and is also a member of the Ibero-American Society of Social Pedagogy and the International Council of Adult Education.
