The history of handball

Handball was invented in Denmark in 1897. Since then, the sport has grown and is now played worldwide. The sport became part of the Olympic programme in 1972.

Handball is a fast-paced team sport played indoors, where two teams of seven players each (six outfield players and one goalkeeper) aim to score goals by throwing a ball into the opponent’s net. The court is similar in size to a basketball court, and players pass, dribble, and shoot the ball using their hands. The team with the most goals at the end of the match wins. It’s a mix of football, basketball, and water polo – but played on land.
